Public Programs Ninth Family History Seminar Land Research Workshop
September 5, 2009
Alamo Hall, San Antonio, Texas
Special guest speaker Donald Raney Sponsored by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library
Mr. Raney, a sixth-generation Texan who has been an active genealogist for over thirty years, spoke about finding ancestors in federal and state land records.
Armed with protractors, participants practiced mapping land boundaries and drawing plats using the metes and bounds method of land measurement and description.
Seminar attendees learned about where to access land records in various formats; how to locate ancestors' land in records and on maps; and how land has historically been distributed and acquired in the United States.

Proceeds in excess of expenses benefited the Herpich Conservation and Restoration Fund of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library.
